Surveillance Cameras for Small Business

By SA Rubin

Oh, for the good old days when you could leave your car doors unlocked while you went into the local store and were greeted by someone who knew your first name.

And does anyone remember a time when a shop owner could go into the back room to help a customer, without worrying about that suspicious looking character grabbing something off the shelf and heading for the door?

In some small towns, this still exists. But for the rest of us, it will likely never be that simple again.

Today, surveillance cameras have become less of a luxury, and more of a necessity for businesses of all sizes. Whether you want to prevent shoplifting, employee theft or vandalism, security cameras are a cost effective way to keep an eye on your store, warehouse, or parking lot. They can provide peace of mind for business owners as well as customers who may be concerned about leaving their vehicles unattended while they shop.

Years ago surveillance cameras were expensive to purchase and maintain, but these days you can set up a surveillance system for only a few hundred dollars, or you can set up a more advanced surveillance system with multiple cameras for just a couple of thousand dollars.

If this sound expensive to you, consider how much it would cost to pay three or four employees to stand around watching your parking lot for suspicious activity. Also, surveillance cameras can record what they see, which is far more useful to the police than having a person try to remember and describe what they saw.

Just about any business can benefit from surveillance cameras.

Retail storeowners can monitor employee activity as well as deter shoplifting.

Office buildings can provide more security for their employees who walk through the parking lot at night to get to their vehicles.

For you business owners who want to keep an eye on things while you're away from work, many surveillance systems can easily be set up for remote viewing from anywhere in the world with an internet connection.

Day care centers, and even dog kennels can offer their customers more peace of mind by allowing them to remotely view their children or pets from anywhere with an internet connection.

These are just a few examples; the list goes on and on. The bottom line is no matter what business you're in, if you have employees, customers, or a parking lot, then surveillance cameras are well worth looking in to
