Music - The Perfect Medicine To A Long & Tiring Day

By Armant Melo

Music is universally entertaining for people across the globe. It has implanted itself so well in our daily life that you are never too far from it, be it at home, office or even while traveling. Even non-music buffs, do consciously or unconsciously appreciate good music at times. You can get your music from various places such as television and radio.

Sometimes you are listening to music but you are not aware of it because it jells in the background so well. For example, all sitcoms, TV shows, and commercials have background score or rather instrumental "mood" music to set the mood of the program. TV commercials also have musical jingles, which are quite popular.

Different kinds of Music

Music as you know is easily available nowadays. You can decide for yourself the medium in which you would like your music. For example, you can buy a CD, VCD, listen to radio, TV etc. You can gauge the craze of the people towards music from that fact that many a TV channels such as MTV, VH1 have cropped up which are dedicated to music. Same is the case with radio stations with new ones cropping almost everyday. Some radio stations have further classified their program to play only a particular kind of music. One can say that the listener is spoiled for choice finding it hard to choose.

Music can be classified into a variety of different categories on the basic of the melodies. For example, rock, classical, pop, R&B or dance music. On the other hand music is also categorized on the basis of eras and time such as hits of the 70s, 80s, 90s etc which includes all the great hits from those years.

Digital Format

With the growth in technology in today’s world, another new medium has been added through which you can enjoy music. This is the digital medium. Digital medium has made music accessible on the internet. There are a number of websites, which allow you to listen and download music online. Downloaded music is stored on your computer for you to enjoy at leisure. A number of online radio stations have come up which allow you to listen to any music of your liking as long as you are online. Some of these services are free while others require subscription. These websites give you a lot of facilities such as they allow you decide which kind of music that you want to listen to so that they will only show that particular kind of music to you.

With the coming of digital music, there was a need to compress the size of the music files as it was quite large. This was accomplished with the coming of the MP3 format. MP3 format allows you to reduce the file size of large files. These MP3 files can be easily downloaded, from the net, stored on your computer, and transferred through CD’s etc. With the coming of MP3 files there also came in MP3 players which allowed you to store and play MP3 music files. You can consider them modern version of the walkmans, which plays music in digital formats rather than through CD’s and cassettes.

With reduction in the file size of the music files through MP3 format the capacity of the normal CD to store music increased. MP3 files made music very accessible to the people making them their own master. People no longer have to wait for their favorite song to be played by the radio stations.
